How much does law firm marketing cost in Alberta?

By Joydip Kirtunia, founder of GrowMinion LLC. Updated 2026-10-02.

Short answer: most Alberta firms spend somewhere between $499 and $2,000+ a month on management, plus ad spend if they run paid search. Where your firm lands depends on your practice area, your city, how competitive your market is and how fast you need results.

Typical price ranges by service

These are our own starting prices in Canadian dollars. Other agencies price differently, but the structure is similar across the market.

  • Google Ads management: from $499 a month, plus ad spend paid directly to Google
  • Law firm SEO for one office, including Google Business Profile: from $999 a month
  • Multi-location SEO: from $1,399 a month
  • All-in-one marketing (SEO, Google and Meta Ads, AI visibility, branding, intake automation): from $2,000 a month
  • Website design: from $999 one-time
  • Meta Ads management: from $500 a month, plus ad spend
  • AI intake automation: from $399 setup plus a monthly fee

What drives the cost up or down

Price follows competition. A personal injury firm targeting downtown Calgary faces far more competition than an estates practice in Lethbridge, so it usually needs more content, more authority and a larger ad budget to win.

  • Practice area: injury, criminal and family are the most competitive
  • City: Calgary and Edmonton cost more to win than smaller Alberta markets
  • Number of offices and practice areas
  • Starting point: a strong existing site costs less to grow than a rebuild
  • Speed: paid search gets results faster but costs more per lead at first

Costs that sit outside the monthly fee

Three costs are usually separate, and a good agency will say so upfront. Ad spend goes directly to Google or Meta. Authority backlinks are budgeted separately because the amount you need depends on competitors. Some tools, like call tracking or CRM software, have their own subscriptions.

How to judge the return

Rankings and traffic are not the goal. The useful number is cost per signed case. If an injury case is worth $15,000 in fees and you sign one in five qualified leads, a $70 lead is extraordinary value. If an estates file is worth $800, the maths changes. Ask any agency to report qualified leads, booked consultations and cost per lead, not just clicks.

A sensible way to start

Most solo and new firms start with one channel through what we call Demand Capture: Google Ads for immediate calls, or SEO for steady long-term growth. Growing firms that want every channel working together choose Market Capture. Either way, a custom quote based on your practice area and city is more useful than any price list.

Questions

Quick answers

Is ad spend included in agency fees?

Usually not. Ad spend is paid directly to Google or Meta, and the agency fee covers management.

What is a reasonable budget for a solo lawyer?

Many solo lawyers start between $499 and $999 a month in management with one channel, then add more as leads grow.

Are cheap SEO packages worth it?

Packages far below market rate often skip the content, technical and authority work that actually moves rankings. Ask exactly what is delivered each month.
